2026 will be another busy year for the health sector in Switzerland, with numerous initiatives planned by the Federal Council.
Federal support for the rare disease community
Following a public consultation in the last quarter of 2025, the Federal Council will present the proposal for a Rare Disease Act in the first half of 2026. The initiative seeks to ensure motions from the Health Committees of the Swiss Parliament and to ensure
Sustainable funding for the Swiss rare disease registry, set up in 2018, which until now has only obtained temporary support from the FOPH,
Financial support for the coordination of specialized care institutions as well as information and advice activities for patients, carers, HCPs and the general public.
Yet another revision of the Therapeutic Products Act
A public consultation will be held in the second part of the year on several changes to the law, including on medicine supply and a new tax on medical device surveillance.
Securing the supply of medical devices
In implementation of motion 20.3211 Müller, the Federal Council will hold a public consultation to create a legal basis enabling the import of medical devices approved under non-European regulatory frameworks, such as the US.
